Mohawk Tribe Beaded Cloth Hanging Canoe Basket with American Flags & "1919"

Description

This very unique and engaging Mohawk bead decorated heavy cloth canoe decorated with American Flags and the year 1919 was created to celebrate the victory and coming of peace for the Allies in World War I.  In addition to the flags and the date, the little canoe (9" long) has pink, blue and white flowers, green and brown leaves and a peace dove with an olive branch in his beak.  The edges of the canoe are also decorated with glittering clear beads and it has a hanging cord with the same glittering beads.  The bottom of the canoe is decorated with 9 hanging loops of colorful beads.  The piece is in excellent condition with just a small amount of staining on one side and some ink stains on the inside (someone has thoughtfully put some carefully folded pink paper that hides these stains).  Altogether a great piece of folk Americana!
